Summer '10 gaming
Posted 5 Jul 2010
The hot months are upon us. There's no better time to sit on your couch in air conditioning and play a few good games. What are you guys playing this summer?
My main concern has been finishing 3D Dot Game Heroes. I've been so distracted by life that I'm toward the end and have yet to finish it. That and Jett Rocket on WiiWare, but it's only been out about a week and is super short. I might try to finish that tomorrow night.
Then is Bioshock 2, with sprinkles of Castlevania: Harmony of Despair and other assorted titles mixed in. I'll probably try to get to Super Mario Galaxy 2 at some point. -

2010: year of the action game?
Posted 15 Mar 2010
Let's take a look at what we've got so far:
Darksiders (Jan 5)
Bayonetta (Jan 5)
No More Heroes 2 (Jan 26)
God of War III (Mar 16)
It's a pretty good pull so far for fans of the genre. These are all holiday season caliber games.
Anyone else pumped? -

I'm sad to no longer be doing the show on Tuesdays. Hopefully we find a day sooner than later. -
PSN Games
Posted 4 Feb 2010
The PSN games have singlehandedly justified my purchase of a PS3. Not the console exclusives -- I felt Resistance sucks, Heavenly Sword was fun but flawed, uninterested in Uncharted -- not the Blu-ray player, though it is nice to have. The downloadable games on the PS3 have been a huge surprise, to say the least.
That said, let's discuss which discless games are worth owning. I've come across several.
Super Stardust HD -- a Geometry Wars-style twin-stick shooter, but in my opinion, a superior experience. Everything about it is better -- playing on a sphere instead of a grid, the strategy required to make use of the three weapon system, the shiny graphics and booming soundtrack -- Super Stardust is a phenominal experience.
Flower -- would have been my 2009 game of the year if I had played it in 2009, no joke. There hasn't been a game as moving or engrossing, in my opinion, in a very long time, if ever. Its simple mechanics help disguise a unique and understated message, and it's one no PS3 owner should miss.
Shatter -- probably the best Breakout clone in a long, long time. The addition of a (lol) suck and blow mechanic adds so much to the strategy, and the boss battles are creative as well. Also, the electronica soundtrack is beyond reproach.
Et tu, my Extra Guys?
