It could be nothing more than a glitch that has to do with the addition of the arcade version to the Virtual Console on Monday, but Capcom has yet to officially comment on its disappearance. It wouldn’t be the first time a game went missing from an online Nintendo store.
A popular theory is that Capcom wants to force people into buying the more expensive arcade version, which costs 800 Nintendo points instead of the 500 the NES version costs. This would be strange, however, since there are multiple versions of Street Fighter II on the Virtual Console and none were removed when others were released.
We’ve contacted Capcom about this, so we’ll let you know if and when we hear anything from them. If this concerns you then make your voice on the issue heard over at the Capcom Unity forums, where a topic regarding this is under way.
