We’re continuing the Top 5 festivities this week with a look ahead at some of the games we’re most excited about playing in the upcoming year. We’ll be counting down the top five games we are most looking forward to in 2010. Check out our number five selections below.

Halo: Reach
I’ve gotten pretty burned out on Halo in the past few years. Halo 2 was my life for quite a while, and Halo 3 was nice but it was time to play other games. I didn’t care at all about ODST, but… somehow, I’m intrigued by the possibility of a squad-based Halo game. I already know what happened on Reach, though this will be a reinterpretation as I understand it, but it seems Halo: Reach will be just different enough to maybe, just maybe, get me back off the wagon.

No More Heroes 2
Travis Touchdown’s return is a triumph for hardcore gaming on the Wii. The first game used the Wii remote in basic but engaging ways, and the game’s sense of humor and self-awareness set it apart from just about anything else to date. It’s kind of a letdown that there won’t be support for the Wii Motion Plus, but that still doesn’t change the fact that swinging the remote horizontally to chop someone’s head off is one of the most satisfying experiences around, especially when the headless cadaver erupts in a fountain of blood. Even if No More Heroes 2 is just more of the same, it’s going to be one wild ride.

Final Fantasy XIII
It’s been a long time since I’ve been excited about a new Final Fantasy, but for some reason XIII has me really interested. It could be because of the idea of finally playing a Final Fantasy game on the Xbox, or it could just be that I’m finally in the mood to play an RPG again. I haven’t played a Final Fantasy title since FFX (and not FFX2, the first one), but I think this might be the year that changes. I’m doubtful as to whether it will top my personal favorite RPG of all time, Final Fantasy VII, but I’m willing to give it a chance.
