The 360 has been getting more than its fair share of board games recently: Settlers of Catan, Carcassone, Ticket to Ride… but with the exception of Carcassone (which I got for free during some promotion or other), these digitized board games have really only served to make me say ‘Wow, I’ve heard great things about these games for years, I should buy the hard copy versions of these games.’
But then the rumor surfaces from the depths of Comic Con (Gaming Shenanigans: on the cusp of gaming news, only a week or so late): Zombies!!! may be coming.
Here at Shenanigans HQ we have a bit of a man-crush on the Twilight Creations series. The only problem is that, while a two player game works, in the strictest sense of the word, you really need three or more to have an exciting game (and besides, Dave spend 85% of his energy in any game we play together trying to dick me over, so a third person means they can win instead of an extended sodomy-fest continuing late into the night*). The main benefit of an XBL version of a board game over a real-life counterpart is that you can play it with people around the world instead of needing to try and cajole your spouses into humoring you. As it turns out, ‘But we can play with the zombie dogs from the fourth edition too!’ isn’t as compelling an argument as we thought.
So, even though this is a speculative game that may not have even begun its hypothetical production yet, we’re excited. I have a feeling that there will be no local play, as you need to hide what cards you have, which will be unfortunate. Even so, that’d only be useful for ‘Hey, there are two of us, let’s get some AI in here,’ and artificial intelligence in a zombie game? They should be concentrating all their development time on advanced brain-path-finding algorithms!**
* Wow, some sentences probably shouldn’t make it out of the edit box
** I understand that there is no pathfinding involved in a game of Zombies!!! Shut up.
